Grilled/Fried PB&J (+Video)

A Fried Peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a PB&J version of a grilled cheese sandwich and should not be confused with a deep fried sandwich. The buttery crispy outside and Ooey gooey filling beats the classic version any day but that is just my opinion. It is easy to make and requires just a few ingredients. Keep reading and learn how to make it step by step.

Make this delicious variation of a regular PBJ sandwich and you can thank me later. The buttery crusty outsides of the sandwich and it’s yummy filling is worth the little extra effort added to make it.

You can toast the bread before spreading the peanut butter and jelly if you prefer. However it won’t be the same as pan frying which is where it got it’s name in the first place!

Ooey gooey deliciousness

Ingredients

  • Bread: I used whole wheat bread, feel free to use any bread you like including low carb or gluten free breads.
  • Peanut butter: I prefer to use natural peanut butter, because it has less sugar or no added sugar at all
  • Jelly: Any jelly would work, grape, strawberry etc.
  • Butter: I prefer to use salted butter because it’s my favorite !
  • Any type of pancake mix or Bisquick
  • Milk
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Coconut oil or cooking oil

How to make the fried PB&J sandwich

Spread the sandwiches with the jelly and peanut butter then pan fry OR to pan fry the bread FIRST then fill.

I use pancake batter , you can use any brand you like . Mix your batter per the directions, dip your PB&J sandwich in the batter , make sure it’s fully coated , next make sure your oil is hot , fry your sandwich evenly on both sides , cut , sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy !

Tips

  • I prefer to use natural peanut butter. Most natural peanut butters have a collection of oil on the surface. Stir it with a clean spoon to mix it evenly.
  • You can also use homemade jam/ jelly.
  • Are you into keto or low carb ? Swap out the bread for a good homemade or store bought low carb bread, swap out the jelly for sugar free jelly and use natural peanut butter
  • Allergic to peanut butter? Use peanut butter alternatives!
